Ana I. Benítez-Mateos
Principal Investigator

Ana is SNSF Ambizione Group Leader since October 2023. She completed her PhD at CICbiomaGUNE (Spain) in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Fernando López Gallego. Then, she joined the group of Prof. Francesca Paradisi, initially at the University of Nottingham (UK) and later at the University of Bern (CH) funded by a SELF Postdoc Fellowship. Her postdoctoral research has been focused on flow biocatalysis and sustainable synthesis of pharmaceuticals. In 2022, she worked as project manager of an Innosuisse Innovation Project whith the goal to implement more cost-efficient heterogenous biocatalysts for industrial applications.
Yevhenii Kostenko works on the bioengineering of artificial extremozymes and extremocells for biocatalysis since December 2024. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Bioengineering from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in 2022, followed by a Master’s degree in Biosciences from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in 2024. During his Master’s, Yevhenii completed an internship at Sorbonne Université with Dr. Jean Livet, focusing on engineering genetic circuits to study neurodevelopment. For his Master’s thesis, he worked on the development of a protein-primed DNA replication system for directed evolution, with Dr. Nicolas Huguenin-Dezot in Prof. Sven Panke’s Lab at ETH Zürich.
Tudor Lile
Master student

Tudor is currently pursuing an MSc. Chemistry degree at ETH Zurich, and he has decided to join the team for his semester project. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from RWTH Aachen in 2024. During his undergraduate studies, he completed an internship in the group of Prof. Pich at the DWI Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials, working on the immobilization of enzymes using droplet-based microfluidics. For his Bachelor’s thesis, he worked on 3D printing of microgels for tissue engineering applications under the supervision of Prof. Pich and Prof. De Laporte.
