Welcome Sofia!
October 2023
Sofia Hutter was born in Thun, Switzerland. She received her B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Bern in 2021. She enrolled at the same institution for the master’s degree in molecular Life Sciences with special qualification in Biochemistry - Chemical Biology. Sofia conducted her master thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Francesca Paradisi, investigating bifunctional fusion enzymes as an attractive tool to facilitate biocatalytic cascades for chemical synthesis. Besides, she completed a 6-month internship at the catalysis department of Roche in Basel, where she studied the immobilization of transaminases and their applications.
After completing her master’s degree in 2023, Sofia has joined the team of Dr. Ana I. Benítez-Mateos as a PhD student. Her research focuses on bioengineering of artificial extremozymes and ‘extremocells’ for robust and sustainable biocatalysis.
